Youth Activities This August!

We’ve crafted a full month of fun, active, and social programs just for youth ages 8–14 (but all are welcome!). Find out all of the details, including what's happening and how to register.

Perth is home to top-notch recreation facilities that support an active and healthy lifestyle for residents and visitors alike. From sports fields to ice rinks, our facilities offer a variety of activities for all ages and interests.

  • Conlon Farm Recreation Complex: This expansive complex features sports fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, and trails—perfect for outdoor sports and family fun.

  • Perth & District Community Centre: A hub for skating and ice sports, the Community Centre is home to programs and events for everyone to enjoy.

  • Perth & District Indoor Pool: Dive into fun at our Indoor Pool, offering swimming lessons, public swims, and aquatic fitness programs to keep you active all year.

During the winter months, don’t miss our outdoor rinks, providing the perfect spot for skating and pick-up hockey. Perth also boasts a vibrant network of community clubs and organizations, offering everything from team sports to special interest groups.

Beat the Boredom: Youth Activities This August!

We know that August can feel a little long for your tween/teen—camp is done, summer’s in full swing, and boredom can start to creep in. If you have to hear "there's nothing to dooooo!" one more time...then we've got you.

That's why we've put together a month of fun, active, and social programs for youth ages 8 to 14, with some activities open to all ages.

From water polo and youth yoga to creative art projects and a visit from the Perth Fire Department at Conlon Farm, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Most activities are free, with only a few public swims requiring a fee. Some programs require registration, while others are drop-in and open to all.

So, grab your friends, mark your calendars, and join us for a month full of energy, creativity, and connection. Let’s make this August one to remember!

Lace up and roll out! Join us at the arena for open rollerblading, roller skating and scooters—whether you're just starting out or ready to show off your moves, we'll have the music pumping. Bring your own equipment and helmet required, elbow and knee pads recommended. Free

Tween/Teen Modern Cross-Stitch Workshop 

Fri., Aug. 7 from 1-3 p.m.

Perth Museum (11 Gore Street, East) 

Cross-stitch gets a bold and modern makeover in this hands-on workshop for 
tweens and teens! Participants will learn the basics of cross-stitch using larger 
materials and bold designs inspired by modern pixel art. Using elements of 
contemporary art, graphic design, and pixel art, they'll create a unique piece of 
stitched artwork that's perfect for displaying at home.  Free and all materials provided.

Skateboard Lessons 

 

Thurs., Aug. 13, Tues., Aug. 18 and Wed., Aug, 26 (intermediate) from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

 

Skateboard park, Conlon Farm 

 

Learn to balance, push, and ride with confidence in this beginner-friendly skateboarding session. Safety comes first—helmets required. Shandril Mintenko is a certified skateboard coach through Canada skateboard who will lead these workshops. Free.

Tween/Teen Pom-Pom Mobile Workshop  

Fri., Aug. 14 from 1-3 p.m..

Perth Museum (11 Gore Street, East) 

 

Inspired by fibre arts, textile design, and handmade décor, teens and tweens will 
create a colourful pom-pom wall hanging using handmade pom-poms, tassels, 
yarn, beads, and natural materials. By experimenting with colour, texture, and 
pattern, teens and tweens will design a unique piece that reflects their own 
personal style. Perfect for adding a handmade touch to a bedroom or creative 
space, this fun project encourages creativity while introducing the basics of fibre 
arts with no experience needed! 

You’ll learn the basics of this fun and versatile art form—no fancy experience needed. Free and all materials provided.

Youth Yoga

Wed., Aug. 19 and Tues., Aug. 25 from 1-2 p.m.

Perth & District Indoor Pool 

Stretch, breathe, and relax. This youth-focused yoga session is a great introduction to mindfulness and movement. Bring a mat, wear comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle. Mats can be provided if needed. Free.

Tween/Teen My First Quilt Workshop 

Thurs., Aug. 20 from 1-3 p.m.

Perth Museum (11 Gore Street, East)

In partnership with the Perth Fair, teens and tweens are invited to create their 
own "My First Quilt" craft while exploring this year's Farm to Fork theme. 
Participants will design and decorate their own unique mini quilt during this 
hands-on workshop. Once completed, their creation can be entered into the 
Perth Fair, where it will be proudly displayed throughout the fair weekend. As an 
added bonus, all entries will be eligible for judging, with participants having the 
chance to win a prize! Free and all materials provided.
