Water skills:

Help your child become comfortable in the water.  In your bath or wading pool get your child to try the following skills:

  • Get their face and hair wet.  Get a bucket, bowl, measuring cup or other container to pour water over your child’s head and face.  Show them how to wipe the water out of their eyes with their hands, start with a wash cloth if necessary.
  • Blow bubbles in the water, you can start by blowing a bath toy, floating ball, plastic bowl etc. across the bath.  Try to get their whole face under the water to blow bubbles.
  • Get their ears in the water as the lie on their back
  • Put their whole face in the water
  • Put their whole face in the water and blow bubbles 5 – 15 times coming up for a big breath between sets of bubbles

Remember ALWAYS BE WITHIN ARMS REACH of your child at all times!
