History |
- Fire Chief Trevor Choffe leads the 31 volunteer members of the Perth Fire Department, which is located at 1881 Rogers Road in Perth. The department is comprised of a Deputy Chief, four Captains, ten Driver/Pump Operators, with the remaining 16 members as firefighters.
- The Perth Fire Department is ready to respond to all types of emergencies including fires, carbon monoxide alarms, vehicle collisions, hazardous spills, ice water rescue, and ambulance assists.
- The Perth Fire Department considers training its 31 members to be of the utmost importance and schedules regular training twice a month. The Ontario Fire College offers enhanced and specialized skills training utilized by our members to ensure a high level of competency in all services offered by the department. The members of the department are strongly committed to the department and to the citizens of Perth.
- There are countless hours involved in training, responding to fire calls, and additional voluntary commitments such as Canada Day fireworks, the Festival of the Maples, Muscular Dystrophy, the Smoke Alarm Program, the Santa Claus Parade, the Garlic Festival, and the Perth Fair. All of the members are proud to be involved in our close-knit community.
- The department fleet includes a 2004 Seagrave 100' aerial truck, a 2001 HME 1040gpm pumper, a 2014 Spartan 1500gpm pumper, a 2011 Ford 450 equipment van, and a 2001 Dodge half-ton truck.
- The Department still has Perth's first motorized apparatus, a 1939 American LaFrance pumper purchased for $9505.00. The truck is still operational although it was last used at the Library fire in 1980. We also have two of the old hand pumpers that were used back at the turn of the last century. These items are considered antiques and are used in parades and for display purposes.

Tips to Keep Pet Safe From House Fires
- Extinguish Open Flames – Pets are generally curious and will investigate cooking appliances, candles, or even a fire in your fireplace. Ensure your pet is not left unattended around an open flame and make sure to thoroughly extinguish any open flame before leaving your home.
- Pet Proof the Home – Take a walk around your home and look for areas where pets might start fires inadvertently, such as the stove knobs, loose wires and other potential hazards.
- Secure Young Pets – Especially with young puppies, keep them confined away from potential fire-starting hazards when you are away from home.
- Keep Pets Near Entrances – When leaving pets home alone, keep them in areas or rooms near entrances where firefighters can easily find them.
- Practicing Escape Routes with Pets – Keep collars and leashes at the ready in case you have to evacuate quickly with your pet or firefighters need to rescue your pet.
- Affix a Pet Alert Window Cling – Write down the number of pets inside your house and attach the static cling to a front window. This critical information saves rescuers time when locating your pets. You can obtain a free window cling from Perth Fire Services or Town Hall.
- Keep Your Information Updated – Firefighters are familiar with pet alert window clings so keep the number of pets listed on them updated. Knowing the accurate number of pets in the house aids rescuers in finding all of your pets.
