If you have a lost/missing animal or require animal care and control services, please contact our Animal Control/By-law Enforcement Officer, Laura Lowson, at 613-812-5609 or by email.

Many people love pets, and the we appreciate these beloved family members - whether they be dogs, cats, rabbits, or some other furry, feathered, or scaled friend. Our Animal Control By-law is intended to protect pets and encourage responsible pet ownership, as well and ensure the safety of members of our community (including domestic animals) from encounters with uncontrolled animals and wildlife.

Animal Licenses

Animal licenses are available at the Front Counter at Town Hall (80 Gore Street East). Both cats and dogs are required to be licensed.

Fee: $18.95
Dogs are required to be licensed annually, and are valid for the length of the calendar year (January 1-December 31), unless otherwise revoked (By-law 3557, section 2.1.6)
- Fees are waived for dogs that are microchipped (By-law 3557, section 2.1.9) or are certified CNIB guide dogs (By-law 3557, section 2.1.11). Please provide documentation when applying and/or renewing tags.
Cats require one license which is valid for their lifetime

Spay/Neuter Clinics

Please be a responsible pet owner - have your pet spayed or neutered!

Lanark Animal Welfare Society Spay/Neuter Assistance Program - for individuals and families in our communities with household incomes of $40,000 or less, to access affordable spay and neuter services for up to two pets per household (proof of income required).
Lanark Leeds Grenville Spay Neuter Clinic - Spay and neuter surgeries for all breeds of cats and dogs, and neuter surgeries for male rabbits.

Please be advised that the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit will not be offering reduced-cost rabies vaccination clinics in cooperation with local veterinarians in 2023 due to a number of factors.
