Froid d'Art: An Outdoor Art Exhibition in Partnership with Martello Alley
Eight local artists have painted original artwork directly on sheets of acrylic that have been individually frozen in 300 lbs of ice. Perth Tourism and Perth Museum are partnering with Kingston's Martello Alley to bring this unique concept to Perth.
Use #FroidDArtPerth to show us your photos!
CURRENT STATUS:

Please check Perth Tourism's Facebook page to see photos of the art installed outdoors.
Location
Behind Town Hall (80 Gore ST E) around the Bandshell.
When
The exhibition will be installed from February 3 until it melts. We're hoping it will last through the month of February and maybe even into March, but the weather will determine the end date. The pieces will be lit every night from dusk until dawn.

Katherine Muir Miller |
Fiery and Icey Pines by Katherine Muir Miller This painting was a fun project for me. When asked to participate in a new venture organized by Perth Tourism for the Festival of Frost and Ice, I was up for a new challenge. The subject matter I chose was one of my very first paintings when starting with acrylics, my dancing Pines. I used my very older painting that is currently owned by my youngest son. It has always been a favorite of mine, and this would begin to define my love and passion for Canadas Pine trees. Its set in a fiery sky symbolizing the strength and endurance of these trees across Canada. The underlayers hold deep blues and green as well as the trunk with burnt umbers and splashes of color hitting the bark. The base layers and color are important as they depict how genuine and strong these pines are no matter the weather elements. The pines continue to hold their beauty and individuality no matter their exposure. Layers of snow and ice burden the pines, adding weight like no other throughout the colder days of winter, yet still, they are so beautiful and strong looking. I love how they always look like they are dancing. |
Tori Smith |
"Hi, I'm Tori C. Studio! I'm an artist who dabbles in painting, sketching and digital art. I've always loved expressing my creative side, and have just recently started a small side business selling my prints and originals.
For this display I wanted to make something with lots of colour and dimension while still remaining wintry. My creation is a mountain scene at sunrise which gives the feeling of pause and elation all at once. I had a ton of fun bringing this piece to life! You can check out my art at Concave Gallery in Perth or on my Instagram page - toricstudio. :) "

Wendy Quirt |
As a youth, Wendy spent many hours outdoors exploring Ottawa’s green space, local creeks, and woodland areas. She was keenly interested in nature and spent much of her time sketching and painting wildlife. After obtaining her university degree and working in the high-tech industry, she felt a powerful pull to follow her childhood dream of being a wildlife artist. She traded in her high-tech career and committed herself to wildlife art full time in 2007. Her creative process starts with an idea, camera, and sketchbook, gathering reference material. She’s known for her realistic style and lifelike quality in her paintings. Her award-winning work has shown internationally and hangs in many private collections. Dedicated to nature and committed to preserving wildlife and their habitats, her work has and continues to help raise funds for a variety of conservation organizations. She is an associate member of the Artists for Conservation Group and she hopes to share the beauty and value of nature through her art. |
Catherine Orfald |
![]() Catherine Orfald is an artist who primarily paints in oil, but will also work in acrylics and encaustics. She is a member of the Riverguild and the Perth Autumn Studio Tour. Commissions are frequently ordered and most welcome.
This piece, Red Fox, was done in acrylics. The fox is a frequent visitor in our area, active all year round. Foxes listen for prey under the snow in winter and can be seen “mousing” (leaping into the air and diving into the snow headfirst to catch their meal).

Joe and Kayleigh Prodonick |
Whizz-Bang-Zoom! by Joe and Kayleigh Prodonick "There is no wrong way to do art. As long as the art you create makes your heart happy, then that's all that matters." This is what we always tell our daughter. And what a wonderful, freeing, limitless idea that is. That means you can do anything, try anything and improve on anything you want. And this is how we approach our artistic endeavors, it is done for the simple enjoyment of creating art from the heart. It's doesn't mean everything will turn out perfectly, but it doesn't make it bad either. And who doesn't love a little bit of whimsy?
We are Joe and Kayleigh Prodonick and we completed this piece together. We often draw inspiration from pop culture, sci-fi, fantasy and the world around us.
