There are certain instances where you will need an application, licence or permit in order to comply with the Town's by-laws. The most commonly requested forms are listed below along with important information for each one. Please review the Fees and Charges document for a comprehensive list of all of the fees for the Town's applications, licences and permits.

Busking Permit

Please refer to the Busking By-law No. 4534, as amended, for rules and regulations, and; reference the Fees and Charges By-law No. 3675, Schedule "E" for permit fees.

Please complete the Busking Application to obtain approval. Send it to reception@perth.ca or bring it to Town Hall at 80 Gore Street East, Perth, ON  K7H 1H9

 

Heritage Permit
  • You will be required to obtain approval from Council or designate if you want to undertake any work on a heritage property that will affect its architectural character. 
  • Please note that building permits or sign permits may be required.
  • Please use the Heritage Permit Application to obtain approval. There is no fee for a Heritage Permit.
Lottery Licensing - charitable gaming
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO) is responsible for administering the lottery licensing program in the province. Municipalities and the AGCO are responsible for issuing lottery licences to eligible charitable and religious organizations.

The Town of Perth has licensing authority for:

  • non-pooling bingo events, with prize boards of up to $5,500;
  • charitable gaming in pooling bingo halls events with prizes up to $5,500;
  • break open tickets for local organizations;
  • raffle lotteries for total prizes of $50,000 and under; and
  • bazaar lotteries which include: wheels of fortune with a maximum bet of $2.00, raffles not exceeding $500, and bingo events up to $500.
Eligibility requirements
Eligible charitable and religious organizations may be licensed to conduct lotteries.

An organization may be eligible if the organization:

  • has been in existence for at least one (1) year;
  • has a place of business in Ontario;
  • demonstrates that it is established to provide charitable services in Ontario and;
  • uses proceeds for objects or purposes which benefit Ontario residents.

Marriage Licence - Available by appointment ONLY

A marriage licence is valid for use anywhere in Ontario for 90 days (three months) from the date of issue. If you plan to marry outside of the province or the country, be sure to verify the requirements for the appropriate jurisdiction.

Appyling for a Marriage Licence
Follow these steps to apply for a marriage licence:
  • It is recommended that you apply for the Marriage Licence approximately one month prior to the date of Marriage.
  • Fill out a Marriage License Application (English, French).
  • Both parties must sign the application.
  • Gather identification documents (see below) for you and your partner and, if it applies, proof of Divorce and Death Registration.
  • Email a copy of the application form and a copy of the original documents to dgordon@perth.ca or bring them in person to Town Hall.
  • Once the application and documents have been verified and checked for completeness, a staff member from the Town of Perth will collect or contact you for payment over the phone and to make an appointment to pick up the Marriage Licence.
  • Application fee of $140.00 can be made via Mastercard or Visa (Debit/Visa are not permitted).
  • Bring all the ORIGINAL application and all the ORIGINAL documents to the Town Hall at the time of the appointment for verification.
Identification Documents
Two pieces of original valid identification for both parties are required. Photocopies will not be accepted. If any of your identification is in a language other than English or French, you must present it with an official translation of the document.

The first piece of identification must be any of the following:

  • a government-issued birth certificate, including any change of name certificates
  • a valid passport;
  • a record of immigrant landing;
  • a Canadian citizenship card.

The second piece of identification must be in the form of government-issued photo identification, including:

  • a valid driver's licence;
  • a valid passport;
  • a valid Ontario Photo Card
  • a BYID age-of-majority-card.

**Health cards are not accepted as identification.

If you are divorced

If you were divorced in Canada, you must show the original or court-certified copy of the decree absolute, final judgment or certificate of divorce. Certified copies can be obtained at the court that granted the divorce. Photocopies are not accepted.

If you were divorced outside of Canada, you must get authorization from the Office of the Registrar General before you can get a marriage licence. This process may take a few weeks. Contact the Office of the Registrar General at 1-800-461-2156 for more details.

Open Air Burning Permit (includes campfires)

Open Air Burning By-law (Please note: the Fire Permit application is now online.).

Important information about open air burning, including backyard campfires, is included in the document above. Please ensure you read it in its entirety to ensure that you are complying with the by-law and to avoid incurring any fines.

Approved permit holders must call 1-844-992-2464 to activate their Burn Permit before each burn activity.

Merchandise Displays

An approved application is required in order to erect any merchandise display in the Town of Perth. The application review process ensures that all displays will be installed in proper locations and in  accordance with the by-law.

Refreshment Vehicle License

Please refer to the Refreshment Vehicle By-law 3113, as amended, for rules and regulations.

Sign and Sandwich Board Permits

An approved application is required in order to erect any sign in the Town of Perth. The application review process ensures that all signs will be constructed and installed in accordance with the safety standards in place.

Patio Application
