Review the Town of Perth initiatives implemented in the past few years, to help address climate change challenges.

The Climate Change Sustainability Advisory Panel meets bi-monthly to discuss climate change issues and put forward recommendations to the Committee of the Whole. The meeting schedule, agendas and minutes are on the Council Calendar.

Climate Change Advisory Panel - The Mayor's Task Force on Climate Change was established in 2014 to make recommendations to Council, by thinking globally and acting locally in reference to our local climate change. The initial Task Force actively formulated the establishment of a five (5) year plus Municipal Green Plan that laid the groundwork for Perth being a community with long term environmental sustainability.  Check out this summary of "Where we are and Where we are Headed by 2022" and the Town of Perth's Climate Change Action Plan.

Environmental Services Department

The Town of Perth's Environmental Services department looks after several areas, including utility, transportation, and waste management, and fleet.

  • Transportation services include the maintenance, repair, rehabilitation and replacement of roads, traffic and street lighting, municipal parking lots and street parking, and winter control operations, storm sewers, and tree maintenance
  • Utility services include the operations and maintenance, rehabilitation and replacement of waterworks and sanitary sewer networks. Also included are the operations of water and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Environmental services include waste management including diversion, disposal, recycling, composting, and curbside collection of waste.
  • Fleet services include the procurement, maintenance of all municipal fleet items including road maintenance and emergency equipment.
  • Please call Grant Machan, Director of Environmental Services, at 267-331, extension 2233, email gmachan@perth.ca or visit the back reception area at Town Hall for any of the above listed services.

Blue W

The Blue W is a unique community-based program dedicated to promoting municipal tap water as a healthy, easily accessible alternative to purchasing bottled drinks. Their website provides mapped details on where to find clean, free, public and commercial sources to fill your reusable bottle without compelling you to make additional purchases. Blue W decals in participating shop and restaurant windows are coming soon and participating locations can be found online.

The Green Journey

In Perth, being green is not just about lawns, parks and trees. It's about becoming an environmentally friendly and eco-efficient leader.

  • A driving force behind the efforts to make Perth green is ecoPerth, an award-winning not-for-profit group of volunteers taking action on climate change.
  • The group looks for "win-win" projects that make sense for economic convenience, aesthetic or other reasons, but which also happen to have an environmental co-benefit.

To appreciate the "greenness" of Perth and the beautification as a result of efforts by the community and environmentally conscious groups such as ecoPerth, take an entertaining and leisurely walk through the parks and forests of Perth.
