Do you have questions about Perth? The Visitor Information Centre is located at the Perth Museum in the Matheson House, right downtown on Gore Street. Both Perth Museum and the Visitor Information Centre are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

When you arrive at the Visitor Information Centre, our staff will greet you and help answer any questions you may have. You can collect the information you need, as we have brochures, maps digital resources and information for your visit to the area. There is also a beautiful selection of souvenirs and locally made items for sale in the gift shop. Heck, there even public washrooms and free wifi onsite!

FAQs

We asked our Visitor Information Centre staff to supply us with the most frequently asked questions they receive:

What are your hours?

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 5 days a week year round (Wednesdays through Sundays).

Where are you located?
Inside Perth Museum (in the Matheson House) at 11 Gore Street East.
Are there public washrooms at the Visitor Information Centre?
Yes there is an accessible public washroom with a change table.
Can we buy souvenirs at the Visitor Information Centre?
Yes there is a Gift Shop with books by local authors, Heritage Perth clothing, ball caps and a variety of other items, including giftware.
Is there a separate entrance for the Visitor Information Centre?

The courtyard entrance brings you directly into the Visitor Information Center and into Perth Museum.

Is there parking available near the Visitor Information Centre?

There is ½ hour out front on Gore Street; but better yet there is parking behind the Museum in the municipal lot. Find more information about parking in Perth here at this link. The price is .50¢ per ½ hour. The courtyard and side entrance doors can both be accessed from the parking lot.

Please note: until the end of 2020, parking in the municipal lots is free and street parking downtown is free for four hours.

What is asked for most frequently by visitors of the Visitor Information Centre?
  1. There are lots of requests for maps; we provide maps of the Town of Perth, Lanark County, Cycle routes, Ontario, Ottawa, and water routes
  2. We are often asked for suggestions on places to stay, eat, shop or generally go out and have fun. We have a wall of pamphlets that provide information that will help answer all of these questions
  3. We are also often asked genealogy and cemetery questions which we can research or refer to the Museum archivist
Is there internet available for tourists when they visit the Visitor Information Centre?
Yes we have free Wi-Fi here at the Centre.
Can we access the Museum from the Visitor Information Centre?
Yes we are all in the same building and often have artifacts on display in the tourism center also. The admission to the Museum is by donation.
Is there a place to eat at the Visitor Information Centre?
In the summer and fall the courtyard and the gardens on either side of the house are both lovely spots to bring a lunch to eat at one of the tables and chairs provided.
