On Friday, dignitaries met at the Perth & District Indoor Pool to celebrate the $400,000 Community Building Fund – Capital stream grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation received in December 2021, that was used to assist in the funding of a new roof for the pool. The project was completed on March 7th, 2023 and will help keep the pool operating and serving thousands of residents in Perth and the surrounding area.
MPP for Lanark Frontenac Kingston John Jordan remarked, “This Pool is an integral part of the healthy growth and indomitable spirit of the Perth and District region. This is the facility where Olympians Mike Brown and Bailey Andison ‘picked a lane’ and honed their skills for the podium! The Ontario Government’s $400,000 Trillium Capital Grant means constituents of all ages and levels can continue their aquatic pursuits, secure in the knowledge that the infrastructure of this storied facility is secured with a brand-new roof.”
The entire project involved removing 16,000 ft2 of existing roof from three different levels, replacing all the roof elements, and replacing the upper portion of the steel siding on the walls. The new roof was much needed on this 49 year old facility and will help ensure that the pool continues to play an important role in the quality of life for residents of all ages. The Perth & District Indoor Pool sees over 50,000 entries annually, providing swimming lessons, Aquafit programs, public swims, lane swims, hosts a successful Stingrays Aquatic Club, provides Advanced Programs, and other fitness programs.
Town of Perth Mayor Judy Brown states, “We are extremely grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for this $400,000 grant to assist in the replacement of the roof on the Perth & District Indoor Pool. This facility is crucial for so many of our residents from our young children learning how to swim and competing with our swim team, to our dedicated lane swimmers and our diverse Aquafit attendees.”
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations celebrates 40 years of grant making in Ontario and making a lasting impact in communities.
