The Planning Department presently encompasses two positions: the Director of Planning (Eric Cosens) and the part-time Junior Planner/Planning Assistant (Julianna Zhuo).
The Planning Department is responsible for the administration of the Town's Official Plan and Zoning By-law and activities related to the management of growth and development.
The department also has been assigned a leading role in administration of the Development Charges Study and the Development Charges By-law.

To implement the Mississippi-Rideau Source Water Protection Plan, the Town is reviewing and updating its Official Plan (OP) and Zoning By-law.
To comply with Provincial legislation and the Provincial Policy Statement the Town is processing Official Plan Amendment (OPA) #15 and a Zoning By-law Amendment to implement the Mississippi-Rideau Source Water Protection Plan that came into effect in January of 2015.
